Brainwave entrainment is any method that causes your brainwave frequencies to fall into step with a specific frequency. It's based on the concept that the human brain has a tendency to change its dominant EEG frequency towards the frequency of a dominant external stimulus (such as music, or sound).
The type of sound frequencies that are typically used in brainwave entrainment are called “binaural” beats. The way that these work is that two tones close in frequency generate a beat frequency at the difference of the frequencies.
I know this sounds complicated, but it's pretty simple to understand when you think about it. For example, a 495 Hz audio tone and 505 Hz audio tone (whether overlaid in music or in a sound frequency) will produce a 10 Hz beat, roughly in the middle of the alpha brain wave range, like this:
Healing Brainwave states and why they are important
When you listen to your favorite healing music, that frequency goes into your ears and then into your brain. Depending on the sounds you are listening to, that frequency has the ability to stimulate and activate different brainwave states.

Delta brainwaves (1-3 Hz) are the slowest, highest amplitude brain waves, and are what we experience when we are asleep. In general, different levels of awareness are associated with dominant brainwave states.

Theta brainwaves (4-7 Hz) brain waves represent a day dreamy, spacey state of mind that is associated with mental inefficiency. At very slow levels, theta brain wave activity is a very relaxed state, representing the twilight zone between waking and sleep. Perfect for meditation.

Alpha brainwaves (8-12 Hz) are slower and larger. They are associated with a state of relaxation and represent the brain shifting into an idling gear, waiting to respond when needed. If we close our eyes and begin picturing something peaceful, there is an increase in alpha brainwaves.

Beta brainwaves (13 – 38 Hz) are small, faster brainwaves associated with a state of mental, intellectual activity and outwardly focused concentration. This is basically a state of alertness.

Gamma brainwaves (39 – 42 Hz) are the fastest and most subtle brain waves. Gamma rhythms modulate perception and consciousness.

What are Solfeggio Frequencies?
Solfeggio frequencies make up the ancient 6-tone scale thought to have been used in sacred music, including the beautiful and well known Gregorian Chants. The chants and their special tones were believed to impart spiritual blessings when sung in harmony. Each Solfeggio tone is comprised of a frequency required to balance your energy and keep your body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony.
Scientific Studies on The Solfeggio Frequencies
Dr. Joseph Puleo, A physician and herbalist, began exploring the Solfeggio Frequencies in the 1990s. He developed the theory that each of the six frequencies carried precise characteristics, and that the tones could be used therapeutically.
In 1988, biochemist Glen Rein, PHD, converted and recorded Solfeggio scale Gregorian chants to scalar audio waves. The results were played to test tubes containing DNA. By measuring UV light absorption, Rein Could document the effect of the music on DNA. He also compared the chants with other forms of music, including rock. While rock music had little or no influence, the chants caused a marked increase of light absorption, up to 9%, leading Rein To conclude that Solfeggio scale sound frequencies cause resonance in DNA, and may have healing properties.
Since then, others have explored the healing potential of the Solfeggio frequencies.
